06/24/2008 - ICANNResolve Scam

Some brilliant scammers are seizing the opportunity created by today's ICANN announcement about new TLDs to release a very authentic-looking phishing attack that could lead thousands of domain names being hijacked.

I received this email just a few minutes ago:

The link takes you to a site that looks very much like the official ICANN website, and asks the visitor to upgrade their domain name by entering all of the domain's information, including the login email and password (this should be a huge red flag for everyone).

If you receive this email, do not fill out the form at the accompanying link. The information you provide will be used by scammers to hijack your domain name.

Unless this is a limited release - which I highly doubt - I would expect this to dupe thousands of unsuspecting registrants into turning over the keys to the kingdom. Be careful out there and notify the real ICANN - www.icann.org - of the email you received. Hopefully they'll act quickly to do something about it.
